It may look horrible, but despite the disturbing view, the swarm of mayflies is considered to be totally harmless. In fact, researchers from the Ohio State University note that the insects appear in such great numbers only when nearby Lake Erie is absolutely clean.

Countless mayflies invaded the northern part of Ohio this week, causing a lot of discomfort to local residents. Numerous images show the little creatures laying on the ground and all over houses, boats, or cars.

The swarm of the insects is so big that local weather radars detected it on Thursday.
