The winery submitted an application for 29 foreign workers between December 2016 and February 2017. They would be brought in via the H2-A visa program which is meant to allow foreign nationals into the US for temporary agricultural work.
The winery claims to have attempted to hire Americans first, but received few applications for the work. H2-A compensation for Virginia vineyard workers is set at $10.72 an hour.
