US military strikes against sites in Houthi-controlled parts of Yemen are not part of the broader conflict in that country, Department of Defense spokesperson Peter Cook said in a press briefing on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Overnight, the US military struck three sites on Yemen’s Red Sea Coast in response to recent missile launches that threatened US ships.

"These strikes were a response to a threat to our vessels and to freedom of navigation… these strikes are not connected to the broader conflict in Yemen," Cook stated.
