DUBAI (Sputnik) — The Russian-US deal on Syria gives hope for progress in the intra-Syrian talks, the UAE minister of state for foreign affairs said on Monday.
"The Russian-US deal on Syria provides necessary humanitarian ceasefire and hope that the international community will benefit from the opportunity and advance to serious negotiations," Anwar Gargash wrote on his Twitter account.
He added that the Russian-US deal was a step forward in the Syrian peace process negotiated in Geneva.
The plan, which was agreed upon by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry after the negotiations in Switzerland on September 9, stipulates the introduction of a seven-day pause in fighting since Monday, when the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha begins.
